Serifos, a hidden gem in the Cyclades, offers a unique blend of history and natural beauty. This island in the Aegean is home to RNR’s annual Reawaken Retreat. Here are some of our favorite things to enjoy and explore while on the island.
1. Historic Island Hike to the Chora
Ready to get moving while exploring local culture? Start your journey with a hike to the Chora, the island's main town, perched atop a hill. This hike not only provides stunning panoramic views of the Aegean Sea but also takes you through narrow, winding paths that tell the story of Serifos' rich past.
2. Explore the Chora
Once you reach the Chora, take your time to wander through its charming, labyrinth-like streets. The town is a maze of whitewashed houses, picturesque squares, and historic churches. Don't miss the chance to visit the Venetian Castle, which offers breathtaking views of the island and its surroundings. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the traditional local tavernas, where you can savor local cuisine and experience the warm hospitality of the islanders.
3. Beach Hopping Around the Island
Serifos is home to some of the most beautiful and unspoiled beaches in Greece. Rent a scooter or a car and embark on a beach-hopping adventure. Some must-visit beaches include Livadakia, with its crystal-clear waters and golden sands; Ganema, known for its tranquil atmosphere; and Agios Sostis, a secluded paradise perfect for relaxation. Each beach has its own unique charm, making Serifos a true beach lover's haven.

Traveling between Greek islands by ferry is convenient and scenic. To ensure a smooth journey, plan ahead and book your tickets online at least 24 hours before through reliable websites like Ferryhopper. Arrive at the port at least 30 minutes before departure, travel light, and stay informed about weather conditions to avoid delays. Pro-tip: Make sure you know which port your ferry departs from, as some islands have more than one port.
1. Relax in Paros
Paros, another gem in the Cyclades, is known for its vibrant nightlife, beautiful beaches, and charming villages. Start your exploration in Parikia, the island's capital, where you can visit the Panagia Ekatontapiliani, a Byzantine church with a fascinating history. Head to the picturesque village of Naoussa, famous for its narrow streets, boutique shops, and lively harbor. Bask in the sun in the shallow, crystal blue waters of Kolybithres Beach or Monastiri Beach.
2. Discover Naxos
Naxos, the largest of the Cyclades islands, is a destination that seamlessly blends natural beauty with rich cultural heritage. Explore the island's charming villages, such as Apiranthos and Halki, where you can immerse yourself in traditional Greek life. Visit the ancient Temple of Apollo, located on the islet of Palatia, which offers stunning sunset views. Don't forget to indulge in Naxos' renowned cuisine, featuring fresh local produce and delicious cheeses.
3. Adventure in Milos
Embark on a boat cruise to the stunning Kleftiko and Sarakiniko Beach, also known as "Moon Beach." Don't miss a visit to Plaka, where you can enjoy a breathtaking sunset. Milos offers a unique blend of natural beauty and charming villages, perfect for exploration.
4. Hop over to Hydra
Take a small boat from the port for a relaxing beach day at Bisti Beach. While Hydra can be a day trip from Athens, consider spending more time to fully enjoy the island and its beautiful beaches. The car-free island provides a serene escape, with picturesque streets and a vibrant arts scene.
1. Historical Visit to the Parthenon
No trip to Athens is complete without visiting the Parthenon, the iconic symbol of ancient Greece. Located on the Acropolis, this ancient temple offers a glimpse into Greece's glorious past. To beat the lines and make the most of your visit, plan to arrive early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the crowds are thinner. Alternatively, you can purchase skip-the-line tickets in advance online or join a guided tour that includes priority access.
2. Best Turkish Spa
After exploring the historical sites, unwind and rejuvenate at one of Athens' best Turkish spas. Hammam Baths, located in the heart of the city, offers an authentic hammam experience in a beautifully restored building. Enjoy a traditional steam bath, followed by a relaxing massage, to soothe your muscles and refresh your mind.
3. Best Place to Shop
For a memorable shopping experience, head to the neighborhood of Monastiraki. This vibrant area is known for its bustling flea market, where you can find a wide range of goods, from antiques and souvenirs to clothing and jewelry.
